Go from sea to mountains in this unique trail race ending in Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park
A new 80K race joins the Ultra-Trail Snowdonia by UTMB programme, offering a tough and rewarding journey from coast to mountains. The 78km route climbs 2,500m, starting at sea level in Caernarfon before heading inland into the mountains in the heart of Eryri. The course links coastal paths, remote trails and high mountain ground, capturing the scale and variety of North Wales.
The race starts at 19:30 on Friday 15 May, sending runners out from the coast and into the night as they work their way towards the mountains. Finishers will earn 3 Running Stones, making them eligible for the Hoka UTMBB Mont-Blanc lottery. Built for experienced trail runners, this is a race that demands steady effort, good judgement and respect for the terrain. A true test from the shoreline to the high peaks.
The top 3 runners will not get automatic qualification to UTMB World Series Finals.
MANDATORY KIT
Each participant must carry with them all the items listed in the mandatory kit checklist and take all the clothing and equipment with them during the race.
There will be randomised checks at the start line. A penalty up to disqualification will be applied to participants who do not have any of the individual mandatory kit items with them when inspected.
Due to the long duration of the event, participants should ensure their electronic devices last throughout by planning for sufficient battery life, such as using charge-on-the-go options or carrying spare batteries.
Since UTS 80K is classified under the 100K UTMB race category, the mandatory kit requirements are the same as those for the 100K race.
A free shuttle service will be provided by the organisation for runners, supporters, and spectators, operating from Llanberis to the start of the 80K race.
No reservation is required.
Departures will take place on Friday the 15th between 5:30 PM and 6:00 PM.
As dusk falls, the race unfolds beneath the shadow of Caernarfon Castle, its ancient walls watching as runners move from the edge of the sea toward the mountains beyond. A fast, runnable opening encourages an early rhythm before the terrain begins to rise and the route draws you into the heart of Eryri (Snowdonia).
The course passes through landscapes shaped by slate mining heritage, following historic paths and quarry tracks deeper into the mountains. The climb towards Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) is the defining test; steep, exposed, and unforgettable.
From the high point, the route weaves past tranquil llyns and through ancient woodland, demanding focus as runners through the night and fatigue sets in. The final miles release into a fast descent, carrying runners toward a powerful finish in Llanberis, completing a true journey from coast to summit and through the mountains of Eryri (Snowdonia).
Aid stations are available at strategic locations and regular intervals along the course. These provide basic food and drink options and shelter from the elements.
Larger aid stations will be well stocked with hot food options, hot drinks and a selection of other snacks including cold drinks, water, cola and Näak Energy products.
There are toilet facilities at all locations (including women's toilets and toilets with period products). Most larger aid stations are located in existing buildings or marquees, are warm, and will have seating and rest areas.
UTS 80K is a semi-autonomous / self-sufficient event with aid stations and medical cover at strategic locations on the course. However, due to the extent of the course we strongly advise you to have your own support crew. Your support crew will be able to provide you with personal assistance at designated locations. Due to the remote nature of some aid stations, and the lack of easily accessible car parking, we have to be very selective of which locations we can allow personal assistance.
We strongly advise you to have a supporter to drive you home after the event. Due to the fatigue of completing Ultra-Trail Snowdonia by UTMB, runners should not attempt to drive themselves home.
