Challenge yourself in the mountains of Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park
The UTS 100K is a formidable journey across the northern mountains of Eryri National Park, offering an "alpine-scale" ultra experience in North Wales. Beginning in Llanberis, participants set out on a course that is both beautiful and technical. The route immediately immerses runners in the rugged grandeur of the region, tackling some of the most prominent peaks and climbs.
As the race unfolds, you will be treated to epic views from iconic summits and challenged by trails that includes technical scree, rocky paths, and even a bit of scrambling. You will navigate through stunning landscapes, passing by glacial lakes and through remote valleys, where the sheer scale of the mountains becomes apparent. The course, while scenic, is designed to test every aspect of an ultra-runner's physical and mental fortitude within a 30 hour time limit. With relentless elevation gain and selected runnable sections, the UTS 100K is a true mountain odyssey.
Each participant must carry with them all the items listed in the mandatory kit checklist and take all the clothing and equipment with them during the race.
There will be randomised checks at the start line. A penalty up to disqualification will be applied to participants who do not have any of the individual mandatory kit items with them when inspected.
Due to the long duration of the event, participants should ensure their electronic devices last throughout by planning for sufficient battery life, such as using charge-on-the-go options or carrying spare batteries.
Aid stations are available at strategic locations and regular intervals along the course. These provide basic food and drink options and shelter from the elements.
Larger aid stations will be well stocked with hot food options, hot drinks and a selection of other snacks including cold drinks, water, cola and Näak Energy products.
There are toilet facilities at all locations (including women's toilets and toilets with period products). Most larger aid stations are located in existing buildings or marquees, are warm, and will have seating and rest areas.
Villages which the route passes through include:
- Dolwyddelan
- Blaenau Ffestioniog
- Rhyd Ddu
- Beddgelert
UTS 100K is a semi-autonomous / self-sufficient event with aid stations and medical cover at strategic locations on the course. However, due to the extent of the course we strongly advise you to have your own support crew. Your support crew will be able to provide you with personal assistance at designated locations. Due to the remote nature of some aid stations, and the lack of easily accessible car parking, we have to be very selective of which locations we can allow personal assistance.
We strongly advise you to have a supporter to drive you home after the event. Due to the fatigue of completing Ultra-Trail Snowdonia by UTMB, runners should not attempt to drive themselves home.
